Hemolock granules have dual function of blood clotting:
1. Hemolock contains abundant hydrophilic carboxymethyl, combined with high surface-area flakes that rapidly absorb fluid from blood.
2. Moreover, when directly placed into a bleeding wound and compressed, the positively charged Hemolock cross-links with negatively charged red blood cells, causing it to swell, gel, and adhere together to form a robust pseudo-clot. This adhesive-like action effectively seals the wound and rapidly controls bleeding. Additionally, the Hemolock clot adheres well to moist tissue, preventing it from easily dislodging during the movement of the wounded person and causing secondary harm.
FAQs:
1.What is Hemolock Granules?
Hemolock Granule is a hemostatic agent made from Carboxymethyl Chitosan, specifically designed to quickly stop life-threatening bleeding. It outperforms traditional Chitosan hemostats in terms of efficacy.
2.What wounds can I use it to treat?
Hemolock Granule is a sterile, disposable, highly absorbent hemostatic granule designed for temporary control of bleeding wounds, including arterial cuts and lacerations, venous bleeding, gunshot wounds, blast injuries, punctures, and stab wounds.
3.Is Hemolock Granule easy to use?
Hemolock is not only easy to use but also highly effective and safe. It is available in different delivery systems, such as pouch and syringe applicators, demonstrating our commitment to assisting caregivers in treating various complicated and deep wounds.
4.How does Hemolock work?
Hemolock granules have dual function of blood clotting:
·Hemolock contains abundant hydrophilic carboxymethyl, combined with high surface-area flakes that rapidly absorb fluid from blood..
·Moreover, when directly placed into a bleeding wound and compressed, the positively charged Hemolock cross-links with negatively charged red blood cells, causing it to swell, gel, and adhere together to form a robust pseudo-clot. This adhesive-like action effectively seals the wound and rapidly controls bleeding. Additionally, the Hemolock clot adheres well to moist tissue, preventing it from easily dislodging during the movement of the wounded person and causing secondary harm.
5.Will Hemolock stimulate the body?
No, it won’t. It is same as human physiological pH, no stimulation caused like normal Chitosan(+acidic additive) hemostats. It also does not generate heat and will not burn the casualty or caregiver.
6.Will Hemolock affect the body’s normal clotting process?
No, it won’t. It works independently of the body’s normal clotting processes.
7.Does Hemolock work in hypothermic conditions?
Yes, its clotting ability has been proven to work in hypothermic conditions and in the presence of common anticoagulants such as Coumadin and Heparin.
8.Does Hemolock set off the normal clotting cascade?
No, it does not set off the normal clotting cascade and cannot enter the bloodstream. It only clots the blood it comes directly into contact with. It also does not set off a blood clotting response which would lead to clots being formed at a distance to the product.
9.Where can I get the product?
Hemolock is sold through a network of distributors. Please contact service@hemolock.com with details about your intended use.
10.Can Hemolock be easily removed from a wound?
Yes. In cases of emergency bleeding, Hemolock should be left in the wound to stop bleeding until the patient can receive medical attention. It can then be easily removed by hand, and the wound irrigated with water or saline to remove as much of the gel-like clot as possible. In cases of minor bleeding, the product can be removed once the wound has stabilized, which may take as little as 10 minutes. After removal, the wound should be irrigated with water or saline.
Hemolock contains chitosan, a natural polysaccharide composed of basic sugars such as glucosamine and n-acetyl glucosamine. Unlike other products that use non-degrading procoagulant minerals or nanoparticles such as kaolin, smectite, or zeolite, which can remain in the body indefinitely unless physically removed, Hemolock is designed to break down and be absorbed by the body over time.
11.What happens if I accidentally eat Hemolock?
Please note that Hemolock is non-toxic but not intended for consumption. If ingested, it may cause discomfort as it absorbs moisture from fluid and the gut. Therefore, it is important not to eat Hemolock.
In case of accidental ingestion, it is recommended to drink large amounts of water to avoid any discomfort or adverse effects.
12.Is Hemolock a powder?
No, Hemolock granules are not made from minerals like Zeolite or Kaolin, which are released as nanoscale powders upon contact with fluid. Instead, they are macroscopic granular flakes composed of Chitosan, a material derived from Chitin found in the exoskeleton or shell of crustaceans. Therefore, Hemolock is unique compared to other hemostatic agents.
13.How do I store Hemolock?
Hemolock products should be stored in dry conditions at ambient temperature. No special storage conditions are required or indicated on the product labeling. Stability studies of Hemolock products have been completed, and no detrimental results to product or packaging have been reported.
However, please note that after use, any remaining product should be discarded, as its sterility may be compromised. Reusing the product poses a risk of infection.
14.How many times can you use Hemolock granules to treat wounds and how many wounds?
Hemolock granules are provided sterile for single use and can be used to treat multiple wounds on a single patient. However, please note that any unused, opened packs of Hemolock should not be stored for later use. Doing so may compromise the product's sterility and performance.
15.Can Hemolock be used on the Head or Neck?
Hemolock is a medical device that can be utilized for injuries occurring outside of the skull, such as those on the head and neck. However, it is crucial to follow the guidelines outlined in your clinical training or guidelines when treating injuries in these areas. Special consideration must be given to the airway and major blood vessels supplying the brain, as well as the risk of applying pressure to the brain and nervous tissue in the event of a fracture. By adhering to proper protocols and guidelines, healthcare professionals can effectively utilize Hemolock to treat injuries in these areas while minimizing the risk of complications.
16.Can Hemolock be used on the chest or abdomen?
In general, wounds to the chest or abdomen are considered non-compressible and therefore, most guidelines such as TC3 recommend avoiding the use of hemostatics on such wounds. It's important to refer to your clinical guidelines and training on this matter. However, in extreme situations, clinical judgement may be required. It's worth noting that the use of Hemolock is not contraindicated for wounds in these areas.
17.How long can Hemolock be left in place in a wound?
While Hemolock can be left safely on a wound for up to 24 hours, it is important not to delay the transfer of the patient to definitive care. Therefore, we recommend leaving Hemolock in place until the patient is moved to definitive care.
