Is skin peeling a sign of healing?

2023-09-08

When our skin is damaged or traumatized, skin peeling can often be a positive indication of the healing process. Skin peeling refers to the gradual shedding of old and injured skin layers, making way for the growth and development of new skin layers. While this may cause temporary discomfort or be perceived as unattractive, it is a natural part of the skin's self-repair and recovery mechanism.

The occurrence of skin peeling is typically observed during the early stages of wound healing. When the skin sustains an injury, our body swiftly initiates its self-healing mechanisms. As the wound forms, new skin cells are generated, gradually pushing the damaged skin layers towards the surface. This shedding process facilitates the exposure and subsequent repair of the new skin layer.

The speed and extent of skin peeling can vary depending on the individual and the nature of the wound. Smaller or superficial wounds generally result in milder peeling that resolves quickly. However, larger or deeper wounds may require a longer peeling process. During this phase, a thin and dry film may be noticed on the skin surface, indicating that the old skin layer is preparing to peel away.

It is important to note that skin peeling may not always signify healing for certain specific skin conditions. Conditions like eczema or psoriasis, for instance, are characterized by ongoing skin peeling. In such cases, peeling does not indicate healing but rather acts as one of the symptoms of the underlying condition. Therefore, if any skin issues raise concerns, seeking medical advice for accurate diagnosis and appropriate recommendations is highly recommended.

To support the skin healing and peeling process, several measures can be taken. First and foremost, maintaining cleanliness and dryness of the wound is paramount. The use of suitable antibacterial ointments and dressings is advised to prevent excessive moisture or dryness. Additionally, ensuring adequate hydration by drinking plenty of water promotes overall skin health and facilitates cell regeneration.

Furthermore, it is crucial to avoid excessive irritation to the wound area. Steer clear from using irritating cosmetics or skincare products and refrain from scratching or rubbing the wound. Gentle cleansing of the skin is recommended, while minimizing exposure to sunlight and harmful substances is also beneficial.

Hemolock Healing Ointment effectively promotes the growing of new cells, continuously supplies nutrients, and significantly shortens the healing cycle. Indicated for general skin wounds (abrasions, cuts, bumps, superficial burns, etc.), surgical wounds, stretch marks, and acne marks.

Made from Carboxymethyl Chitosan which promotes the growth of normal fibroblasts and epithelial cells to accelerate wound healing, the ointment regulates the secretion of cytokines and inhibits the excessive secretion of collagen to suppress scar hyperplasia. When applied to skin, the ointment forms a film to protect the wound surface from external invasion and promote the healing, thus avoids the occurence of the following adverse effects of inadequate wound care: wound exposure infection, hypertrophic scar, and pigmentation.
