How to remove gauze from wound without pain?

2023-07-07

When we get injured, doctors often place gauze on the wound to protect it. However, changing the gauze can be painful. Here are some ways to remove gauze from a wound without causing pain.

Soaking in water:
One way is to soak the gauze in warm water, which softens it and reduces pain. You can use lukewarm water or add a small amount of salt to the water. After soaking, slowly peel off the gauze with gentle movements.

Using oil:
Another option is to apply some olive or vegetable oil on the gauze to soften it and reduce pain. Make sure the oil covers the entire gauze and does not drip onto the wound. Wait for a while and then gently peel off the gauze.

Slowly tearing:
If there isn't much clotted blood or discharge around the wound, try the slow tearing method. Gently place your finger on the gauze and slowly peel it off. Make sure to remove it slowly to avoid pain.

Cooling:
You can also cool the wound with an ice pack or cold compress. This can help reduce pain and swelling. Place a clean washcloth or gauze over the ice pack and gently place it on the wound. Wait for a while and then gently peel off the gauze.

Hemolock Healing Ointment effectively promotes the growing of new cells, continuously supplies nutrients, and significantly shortens the healing cycle. Indicated for general skin wounds (abrasions, cuts, bumps, superficial burns, etc.), surgical wounds, stretch marks, and acne marks.

Made from Carboxymethyl Chitosan which promotes the growth of normal fibroblasts and epithelial cells to accelerate wound healing, the ointment regulates the secretion of cytokines and inhibits the excessive secretion of collagen to suppress scar hyperplasia. When applied to skin, the ointment forms a film to protect the wound surface from external invasion and promote the healing, thus avoids the occurence of the following adverse effects of inadequate wound care: wound exposure infection, hypertrophic scar, and pigmentation.

Removing gauze from a wound can be painful, but you can reduce pain and discomfort by using methods such as soaking in water, using oil, slowly tearing, and cooling. Seek help from your doctor if the wound is very sensitive or if complicated procedures are necessary.
